Create an Account

Prior to opening an account, please make sure that you need one. The Ontario Emissions Trading Registry is a regulatory instrument, operated by a designate of the Minister of the Environment. Inappropriate activity will be prosecuted.

The registry tracks the creation, transfer and use of allowances and emissions reduction credits issued under Ontario Regulation 397/01. It also provides the primary mechanism for public notification and comment on key portions of these transactions.

You do not need an account to:

Review and comment on current emissions reduction efforts, including access to supporting documentation. - Notices of Emission Reductions
Get contact and emissions derivative ownership information for account holders. - View Registry Accounts
Generate reports of registry transactions. - Create a Report
Review recent transactions. - View Current Year Transactions

You should only open an account if:

You are a regulated facility. Facilities regulated under Ontario Regulation 397/01 must use the registry to document efforts and compliance. Regulated facilities include Ontario Power Generation’s coal and oil-fired electric generating facilities and all generators over 25 megawatts (MW) capacity who sell, or convey more than 20,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity to the Ontario Independent Market Operator (IMO) controlled transmission grid in a year and who emit more than trace amounts of NO and SO2.
You plan to create credits from your emission reduction efforts.
You own or trade emissions derivatives.

Before opening an account, please keep in mind that accounts with no assets or activity within twelve months of their creation will be closed. All contact information will also be verified by the operator of the registry prior to creating an account.
